Great idea that they got together but thatversion was less than the sum of it's parts...
When I got that album, I had a feeling that maybe Rocco suggested What Is Hip.....I really don't know why, just a feeling.

Just so everyone is aware:

GIL SCOTT HERON is the reason I started this thread. His music is absolutely perfect! THIS is what I meant when I started this thread. The music is funky, but not cheesy... his voice is awesome! Dare I say... sexy? But he's a poet! Don't believe me... check the track "bicentennial blues" off It's your World... by the end of the poem I was going HELL YEAH! And it's stuff that doesn't even really relate to me! It's 1976 politics, but also about the blues evolution... but... wow.

If you like MUSIC Gil Scott Heron is for you!

Thank you David Benyahia for the heads up!

Glad to be of service Matt!

Be sure to check out the Gil Scott-Heron DVD 'Black Wax' if you can find it.

Well, I turned 50 last month, I guess it was bound to happen eventually.

Thanks, Chili. You just gave me my very first "generation gap" experience.

And I wasn't even a very big Beatles fan.

Another idea for you: early Rufus -- some of it's party, but some is more feminist -- and they definitely funk. Also: Karl Denson's Tiny Universe ---
