No mater how many times I hear this song, or watch this video, I never cease to be amazed at how cool it is:

If you don't know John Zorn and Electric Masada, you need to check them out. The most awesome blend of jazz, metal and traditional Jewish music you will find. Period!

Zorn is brilliant. THanks for posting this, hadn't seen this one.

There's an album called "Masada Rock" which are a bunch of Masada compositions performed by Rashanim. I highly HIGHLY recommend this album.

I agree with you. John Zorn to me is a genius and Naked City a masterpiece.

...and if you really like slapping your brain around, check out Zorn's recent project "Moonchild". Band members are Joey Baron drums, Trevor Dunn bass, and Mike Patton "vocals". (When you listen to it you'll see why i put vocals in quotes )

Yeah I really dig the Moonchild CD, but by far my favourite Zorn works are Naked City and the Electric Masada Live at the Mountain of Madness.

Totally.

I wish I could find a DVD or something of some of the more professionally shot Electric Masada stuff on YouTube. If anyone has a lead on that, CONTACT ME

There is an Electric Masada DVD (live at Tonic). The recorded quality isn't the best, though. It's still a great watch. Greg Cohen is on that one.
I believe this is Trevor Dunn here?
Love the Masada and Naked City stuff.

Real player allows you to download videos off of Youtube now, while the quality could be better, that'll get you close.

John Zorn is the man, I've actually been getting more into his compositions like Elegy and various Filmworks lately. Too bad some of his stuff is so hard to find.

+1. I've known the owner, Bruce, for a long time. Even before he bought the store. He knows his Laswell, Zorn, and the like for sure. As a matter of fact, whenever I go back to NY I go to the store and have him pick out his 10 favorite cd's since my last visit and buy them without hearing a note. 9 out of 10 times I love what I buy.

Anyone interested in this kind of music would be wise to call or email him and have him suggest some cd's.

Ah! Electric Masada ... saw 'em two times and the last one in Rome (July 07 during a 3-days Masada-Fest) it was a blast! Can't get enough of that band!
As regarding the Moonchild cycle (Moonchild, Astronome, Six Litanies for Heliogabalus) "Litanies" really smokes with the addition of Ikue Mori (electronics), Jamie Saft (organ) and a 3-female chorus to the original line-up of Patton, Dunn & Baron.
I'd also recommend to anyone "Asmodeus: Book of Angels #7" (new Masada compositions) performed by the trio of Marc Ribot, Trevor Dunn & Calvin Weston ... enough said.
