Electric Wizard (New)

Well, yet another release from Electric Wizard, one of my all time favorite bands. Some people seem disappointed that it sounds a lot like their last release and not as heavy as their older albums (dopethrone, let us prey, come my fanatics ect...).

Personally, I think this song kicks ass. It may not be as straight forward as their previous records, but I think this comes naturally with the progression of a band. I think if any of the skeptics were to see this song live, they'd be floored.

I dunno, give it a listen, I'm curious what everyone else has to say about this.

Sounds like well trodden territory. I'm starting to care less and less about the doom movement... all I'm hearing is the usual Wizard fare that was ok but doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Jus Oborn still cannot sing and hides behind a bunch of vocals effects ala Al Cisneros circa 1991. The riffs are still psuedo-Iommi and seem to work most of the time but the instrumentation is tired. There is only so much fuzzed out mids-enhanced 'oldschool' stuff I can take in one sitting. Its like being force-fed musical cheesecake through a catheter.

I like the new Wizard album. It sounds different from the last album as far as I can tell. It seems a little less doomy, and Jus sounds like early Mercyful Fate era King Diamond without the falsetto. Which is a good thing...to me at least.
OK, so doom and stoner may be passe these days, but to me thats only because there's so many bands that do it, and not that well.
Witchcraft's first album is pretty good. I personally listen to OM alot and Shrinebuilder. Old Melvins stuff still does it for me too. Pentagram and Sabbath will always be favorites.
On a side note: there is a local Cincinnati band here called Oxford Cotton that f**king rocks the trad doom sound.

Yeah, more effecty/noisy than before from what I can tell. It's no Dopethrone, but it's still pretty rad. And I still love Electric Wizard so there! Bastards... Or something...

Yeah I don't get how anyone could rag on this album. After repeated listens, its become one of my favorite releases this year. I feel like the music industry's changed so much it effects the way we listen to it. Everyone has the attention span of a kid flipping through picture books, if a band doesn't keep our interest after the first ten seconds, we immediately skip onto the next thing since practically every band is at our fingertips with the internet/blogs/music sharing. But hey.. thats just me rambling.
