There's reasons why so many people will know every note and word of the first and not even recognise the second. But it's kind of hard to put it into words.


(Shame about the truncated coda on the beatles number, by the way).

Unfortunately the second example did put it in words. Milkman, indeed.

Heh heh, I get your point.

Then again, the Beatles wrote "Taxman" and it's a classic. Paul Weller totally ripped it off for the Jam's "Start", but at least he was good enough to admit it.

Not much wiggle room there for Weller, eh? I'd have loved to hear him try and deny it...


Taxman has great lyrics! Clever, funny and relevant at the time, too (UK income tax was as high as 90% for the highest earners by the end of the '60s).
