umm... don't you have to have a little, um... depth to be emo? NFG seems about as deep lyrically as a small puddle.

o.k. here's a harder question, how do you make the distinction between emo and melodic hardcore?

melodic hardcore is what bands like Divit, Everyday Victory, Strike Anywhere, and Diesel Boy get tagged. they're a little more hard-edged than your typical emo so they get called something else. I'm just trying to figure out all these "mini-genres."

Whose idea was it to classify everything anyway? :looks around:

I've got a simple form of classification: good and crap. Simple.

emo punk is classified as, i actually figured this out, sick and disgusting ****, almost liek death metal type lyrics, sang and played with a happy punk vibe. its not music liek pop punk, songs about girls, if it is then its about girls getting their throats slit. well isnt that a pretty picture?!

And where can I find out about all these new...subdivisions of, well...everything?

Speaking of hardcore, I saw a hardcore show the other day. With the exception of a couple bands, they were all really good. You gotta love that huge hardcore drum sound.

death-metal lyrics with a punk tune? hmm... the closest thing to that I can think of would be AFI... but not quite.

oh well, no need to abandon a perfectly good theory just because it's wrong

You can always tell you're at an emo show when there are a bunch of kids standing around in sweaters.

emo kids cry. I was introduced to emo through the emo diaries, and also Boy Sets Fire. The problem is while emo can be classified with this "more melodic label" some of the boys sets fire I've heard is real heavy with shouting. I think there trying to confuse us all. I think any emo band should just be lazily chucked in with nu-metal, that would make everyone happy. Categorising bands is so confusing. BTW NFG = pop punk, like Blink 182 and Fenix TX.

this thread is so riddled with inaccuracies perpetrated by people (i'm not naming names) whose only experience with emo is overhearing stereotypes, that i'm tempted to delete this thread outright to keep the stupidity from reaching others.

however, i will merely direct all who wish to learn about emo to www.fourfa.com and close this thread so that no further damage will be done.
