Thumbs up Enslaved - Monumension

I listen to a lot of extreme metal, and this album has to have one of the best bass tones I've ever come across from that side of life. You can really hear it at the very end of Convoys to Nothingness, just giant thick gooey slabs of love. Awesome.

The whole album is an amazing piece of very forward thinking metal, one more example of how the metal genre is definitely not dead, it's just a little buried in the underground right now. I'd upload a sample but this particular CD is copyprotected, which means I cannot make a legal copy for my own personal use even.

To my mind the albums they've released since have been even more forward thinking. Enslaved are one of my favourite bands, they've been so far ahead of their time ever snce they started. They were doing 12 minute odysseys when most black metal bands were still using a four track under someones bed (at least thats what it sounds like).

I actually saw them play Saturday night, and they were downright brilliant live. He's also the only player who makes me want a Rickenbacker!

I've only heard some really early Enslaved (really lo-fi... you know... grimm, duh), I'll have to check this out.

It's funny, I use to hate Black Metal (Do a search for "Does Black Metal Suck?" A thread about my hatred of Black Metal. NOW, I'm working on a Ambientish Black Metal side project. How the tide turns.

Im actually the opposite on this. I find newer enslaved to be rather boring. His voice is awesome, but its just so boring. Old Enslaved is much much better and i dont mean below the lights or isa.

I've liked Enslaved since Hordanes Land, which was a promo split with Emperor, back when they were both fairly new on the scene. I never really bought much of their stuff, but I've seen them when they've come to the states a couple of times, and they never failed to please.

They have progressed hugely, although their really low fi phase was pretty tiny. Vikingligr Veldi, their first proper album, is raw but well produced, and far more epic in scope than anything else that was around at the time, bar possibly Bathory.

I checked out Nad's suggestion, friggin' awesome. I need to finish up my black metal song, I'm inspired. I just need to add keys/vocals.

I have been a fan of this band since there first demo. They have evolved a lot over there years and I think there last album RUUN is probably there strongest album to date.
