| | | Just incredible. I don't think Ms. Spalding is originally from Earth. And I mean that in the best way possible. . .

She is an unreal talent, but check out some of her interviews. She works her butt off and has a really clear strategy for improvement. I'm sure that is why she is a college instructor.

Absolutely blew my mind, as this was the first time I had ever heard of Ms. Spalding. Since then, I assure you I have become a huge fan. She is just stunning in every way...I mean she's a beautiful, massively talented woman who creates some amazing music AND she's a bass player. AANNND she plays both upright and electric. AANNNNDDD she's amazingly good on both of them.

It only seats about 50 or so, and no front of house support... just the true sound of the band, backline, etc. I look forward to that in March! |

Not gonna lie, until this vid, I hadn't seen anything from Esperanza that really made me go "WOW!" but I guess that could be attributed to me not really looking. I dig this a whole lot.
EDIT: Not trying to take anything away from her playing by any means but is it just me or do basically all of her tones across electric, acoustic, and upright bass sound REALLY similar? Not quite identical but to the point where she could play either and overall the tune stays mostly unchanged? I just find it interesting because most of the "big guys" (John Patitucci, Brian Bromberg, Tom Kennedy, etc.) that I've seen that play bass guitar and upright sound totally different on both.
