I have a couple of their albums. Agreed, great groovers & top-notch session players; to me, though, they always sounded like they needed a horn player.
FWIW, I dug Stuff better when they played on others' albums(like Tom Scott's New York Connection for example).

The Gadd Gang(with Gadd & Cornell Dupree) is another similar example, IMO.

The more the merrier.They sound to me like there's no one telling them to end the song- again, to me, a good thing. The guy who recommended them (& claimed to be a contemporary of them- who knows- he was the best drummer I ever played with) also suggested Donnie Hathaway. Thanks for the tip!
