Examples of a Jazz Blues?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can someone recommend me any recordings that demonstrate what a good Jazz Blues sounds like? I'm not exactly a Jazz expert but would like to attend a Jazz session or two with my drummer sometime to see if I can cope with some easy standards.

Thing is, I still don't get how to play Walking bass in a blues, last time I tried it, it sounded horrible, mainly because it was kind of hard to avoid the thirds like I always do when I play "normal" blues riffs.

Can someone recommend me some neat "jazzy" blues songs?

Charlie Parker wrote many Jazz Blues tunes and most compilation CDs will include at least one !

Blue Monk, Bessie's Blues, All Blues, Freddie Freeloader, Footprints and many other jazz standards are very cloely related to blues progressions.

Get All Blues by Miles Davis or Coltrane Plays the Blues for some good Jazz-blues stuff.

Cheers,

Billie's Bounce
any of Wes Montgomery's blues
Relaxin in Camarillo
Mr. PC is a pretty straight ahead minor blues.

Then there's
Freddie Freeloader
All Blues

etc etc.
