i was checking out some of my bands myspace friends and found something intresting.
when i went to school i had access to a decent studio and when i was boared i used to record stuff by myself.
I recorded a song that was intended for a one-man project i had going on but when it was time to lay down some vocals, i realized that my vocals are even worse then my drumming.
I asked a friend if i wanted to sing, he did and when the song was finnished we made a myspace page.
the "band" went forgotten in a couple of weeks until today when i found the myspace page.

being unemployed i have a lot of time on my hands and i'm thinking of starting a one man band(with ez drummer or something this time) in the same vain as the previous "band",
but much more refined this time.

what do you guys think: http://www.myspace.com/thedisciplesofragnos

do you think music like this could work with programed drums or do i need a real drummer?
i don't want it to sound to polished.

Isn't the point of black metal/d-beat to sound as unpolished as possible? I am not trying to be rude but, wasn't the idea to create music that wasn't perfect production as a way of telling the prepackaged music industry to **** off?

I can't coment on the myspace page because I can't listen to it from my work computer.

i'm no expert on black metal(i listen to bands like burzum and dark throne from time to time) but yeah, alot of the bands seems to have really lo-fi recordings.

i want the band to sound kinda like burzum and converge meets skitsystem(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nyu-q...eature=related)
would programed drums sound to sterile and polished?

IMO, yes it would. But, that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it anyways. I think Agorophobic Nosebleed uses a drum machine...or atleast some grind band does. You just have to do it right, don't go with a straight clean drum signal. Get the "video game car crash" drum sound going and you'll be alright. boush boush boush...does that even make sense? Oh, well. I'll pop in and give a listen once I get home.

Sounds alright, I'd like to have the guitars a bit messier and maybe a bit more distorted. Seems to be too much silence in between the notes that somehow makes the cleanliness of silence behind penetrate the feeling of the song. Turn up the guitars and don't be so rigid. In saying that though I am proud of doing this lately www.myspace.com/windsofgenocide So I think you can probs hear where I'm coming from.

A lot of the Amercian BM bands have a more polished sound than traditional BVM bands.

I think the recording on this is great, actually. The mix needs to be adjusted though. I listen to a lot of black metal (Deathspell Omega, Woods of Infinity, Burzum, Nightbringer, Woe, Watain, Alcest, Darkthrone, Krallice, Blut Aus Nord) all of whom have different production values.

I concur, the recording is very raw, which is good, but a proper mix would clean up that muddy aspect of the sound and make it sound more powerful.

woah.

peed a lil' bit at the thought of this*.

However, minus BM Burzum... Skitsystem (relative to other d-beat bands) and Converge (and ambient synth Burzum)have a preeeeeetty polished sound to them. I'd do demos solo, but work at finding other(s) to fill it out. Name drop the sound you're going for and you'll probably have good results.

*not really a Burzum fan due to homeboy's ethics... but the music is awesome.
