FAST Bass Playing

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay, I figured I'd throw this one up there. It was a chance to play fast and flashy without sounding TOO obnoxious! lol

The speed on the song dictates it. This is a case where the bass can either sit back and hold it down, or drive along with the guitar and drums. The choice was clear.

Check it out if you get a chance. In the least, it's short. : ) And there are some nice visuals.

Awesome dude. Not to distract, but check out Chris Wyse, you'll find a great bass solo from his high school days (in the 80's). Chris played on the local 80's metal scene and I swear he could give Sheehan a run for his $! I've seen some incredible solos over those years from Chris! He now plays in The Cult and on Ozzy's cover CD as well as being on the Metallica doc DVD "Some Kind Of Monster (he auditioned) amongst others.

Thanks...and thanks for the heads up about Chris and Pete. Yeah, Chris has those 80's flash chops. The two hand tapping can only be applied so much but it's a great technique and he's masterful at it.

Pete is cruder but more organic. Aggressive Leo Lyons like right hand. I dig it.

I totally miss the point with the high double digit IQs and the double D cups. Please elaborate...... if you can.

I don't get it. And a double digit I.Q isn't high.

And as far as the double D cups -- I don't get why there's a problem there at all.

I really like the woody tone you get using the mudbucker.

Mudbucker? Forgive my ignorance, but isn't that the pu used in the old EBO's?

Actually, on that tune I'm playing a Squier J deluxe (mostly the front pu position) and a Squier CV 50's strat.

BTW: The drums are a Roland electronic pad kit. I'd love to have played acoustic drums but the entire recording was done in a Manhattan apartment and I don't want to get evicted! : )

It's funny you say that. I tried a few different sounds and due to the speed, they either were "too full" or tended to got lost in the mix.

That bass is normally very smooth sounding but adding a little intentional "clank" allowed it to cut without cluttering up the bottom ala' Harris' sound on "Powerslave."

At least, that's what I was going for.
