What were some of your favorite albums that came out in 2005?
Here are some of mine:
Soulive - Steady Groovin
Robert Walter - Super Heavy Organ
Raul Midon - State of Mind (I've just started digging this album)
Marcus Miller - Silver Rain
Maceo Parker - School's In (Rodney Curtis plays some great stuff)
Lee Ritnour - Overtime (If you have to choose between the CD & DVD, get the DVD. Amazing)
Josua Redman Elastic Band - Momentum (Me'Shell and Flea trading bass duties, it's good)
John Mayer Trio - Try (what can I say, I love Pino)
Coldplay - X&Y (no, I'm not gay, I just love the sound of a P Bass through an SVT!) |

I also can't get down with Opeth. I mean, I get it, I used to play in a metal band. We opened for Death, Testament, Crowbar, Machine Head, etc. I just don't hear Opeth as being that original. The whole thing seems contrived to me. I don't know. Maybe I will have to give another listen. |

Seriously. it's like we're finally seeing a new-age return to progressive rock. between them and the Mars Volta, we may start to see the modern edge of what Rush, Genisis, and Yes started way back when.

Loved this album. (Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV: Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness). This is the return of Prog rock that I have waited for since first hearing YES, through my girlfriends dad a few years back (I've noticed, much like history, music repeats itself). The bass on the album is amazing, but not nessicarily something I would play, with lots of Slap/Pop grooves.
Also, Demon Days, by the Gorillaz. Very funky bass, and a great album overall.
