Lightbulb Favorite Albums

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I'm putting together an internet list of the best bass albums ever recorded and am looking for input from the bass community here on TalkBass. This is for a somewhat commercial/entrepreneurial purpose and also because I am an amatuer bassist who wants to expand my music collection.

What I'm looking for are examples of good bass playing - from the super-technical bassists (Victor Wooten) to examples of excellent "backing" bassists out there.

Thanks to anyone who wants to make suggestions...If you'd like to visit the site it's http://www.bestbassalbums.com.

Thanks again!

Paul Simon's Graceland.

Bakhiti Kumalo really tears it up, in a classic sense.

Primus - Frizzle fry
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking, Ritual do lo Habitual
The Roots - Come Alive
Death From Above 1979 - You're a Women, I'm a Machine
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic, One Hot Minute
Lamb - Fear of Fours

You should put a Hip Hop/Electronic genre grouping on the site. There are a lot of good hip hop/electronic albums out there that feature actual bass players like The Roots or Lamb above.

Rush - esp. Moving Pictures (my favorite album... ever) & Signals
Yes - esp. Fragile
Marcus Miller - Sun Don't Lie
Primus - Seas
RHCP - Blood Sugar
Jaco's solo album
Weather Report - Heavy Weather
Zep - esp. Physical Graffitti, Houses, and (I think no one but me likes) Presence
Jazz Is Dead, esp. Blue Light Rain (does anyone else think Alphonso's sound is just about perfect? I saw him in Cicinnatti in '99 and he was just tremendous)

I typed these up, then looked at the other responses - I'm amazed at how similar some responses were. You guys have good taste!
