Favorite Double-Stop Riff (maybe 2nd favorite)

This is a live version of (Falling Like) Dominoes by Donald Byrd. The original version was played by Chuck Rainey. This version is live, and I guess it is the Blackbyrds' bassist.

I remember the first time I heard that riff, I was getting ready for school, and that double-stop intro came through the radio, and I was hooked!

Here is the original:

Pretty darn slick. Thanks for sharing it. Nice groove, too!
Call me predictable, but my favorite is still Chuck's in "Josie"

The first thing I thought when I read "Favorite Double-Stop Riff" was Chuck!

It has to be a tie between Peg (Steely Dan) and the Sanford & Son theme.

Mine is Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock the Headhunters

The original watermelon man was kinda lame imo, but the headhunters version blows me away with how well Paul Jackson could sit in the pocket

wait...thats a triple stop isn't it? oh well, it's a sweet song anyways

Josie was the first one I thought of too!

There's also a good Jethro Tull bass solo with lots of double stops. I think it's Bouree. Not sure.

I'll always have a soft spot for Stanley's use of double stops... Vulcan Worlds is a stand out.

Watermelon Man is my 1a favorite!

Anything by Stanley Clarke is up there too. Bass never sounded the same to me after School Days.

Not to lower the brow of the thread, but I've always loved the double stops at the beginning of Tool's Schism.

Here's another favorite of mine. Mark Adams using double stops during the intro and sporadically throughout the song.

That's my favorite Mark Adams double-stop jam!

Off topic:
DW, that honey whose picture was on the Snapshot Youtube clip had some awesome double-stops herself!

There's a ton of Classic Rainey double-stoppage out there...the Quincy Jones material, the Dan stuff, Aretha, etc.

A couple of early ones that, as a beginner, made me go "Huh...is that the bass"?

"How Long (Betcha Gotta Chick On The Side)"- The Pointer Sisters

"School Boy Crush"- AWB (on the outro)

...and, c'mon-
"Shining Star"- EW&F

Couple of others that may lower the brow on this thread-

"Dead Babies" & "Gutter Cat vs. The Jets"- Alice Cooper
Dennis Dunaway's open "D" drone effect (influenced by an Indian raga) was very cool.

"Harbor Lights" from Silk Degrees is a classic..."Lowdown" also has some nice doublestops ("chords") by Hungate.
