Favorite "Epic" Song

Sign in to disble this ad
You know those songs that are like 7+ minutes long, usually uplifting in some way, and always tell good story? Those are some of my favorite songs. What's your favorite?
Here's some of mine:

Bob Dylan---Hurricane
Led Zeppelin--Achilles Last Stand...In My Time of Dying
Dream Theater--A Change of Seasons (over 25 minutes)...Metropolis part 1
Pink Floyd--Echoes....pretty much everything from Animals.
The Doors--Celebration of the Lizard King...When The Music's Over
Deep Purple--Child in Time
Stevie Ray Vaughn--Tin Pan Alley
Claypool's Frog Brigade--Cosmic Highway

I know there's more that I'm forgetting. I've been up all night, they'll come to me later...

Not one of mine, but a classic "Free Bird"
Zeppelin "Rain Song" "Stairway to Haven"
Dylan "Tangled Up in Blue"
Neil Young "Cowgirl in the Sand"
Jethro Tull "Thick as a Brick"
Zappa has so many but:
"Yellow Snow/Nanook Rubs it" and though it's not long enough
"Cosmic Debris"

And yes there's more

High Water Mark, by Iced Earth

it's like an opera wrapped in a metal song wrapped in an opera about the civil war.

^Celebration Day? It's a great song, but I don't see how it's an epic or a concept piece.

Genesis - Supper's Ready, The Musical Box, The Battle Of Epping Forest
Yes - Close To The Edge, The Gates Of Delirium
Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand
Rush - The Necromancer, 2112

+1 An overlooked masterpiece. Hopeful, yet discontent.
My votes:

Gates Of Delirium
Awaken
Close to the Edge - YES
Fracture
Starless - KING CRIMSON
A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers - VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR
Supper's Ready - GENESIS
Echoes - PINK FLOYD
Bastard - OCEAN MACHINE
Hemispheres - RUSH

A prog-fest, basically.

Taking it out of the prog zone...

Television - "Marquee Moon"
The Dismemberment Plan - "Respect Is Due"
Modest Mouse - "The Stars Are Projectors"
Red House Painters - "Make Like Paper"
Low - "Laugh"
Iron Maiden - "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (OK, that one's fairly proggy)
The Cure - "Disintegration"
Built to Spill - "Broken Chairs"

and the greatest room-clearer of all time:
Hüsker Dü - "Reoccuring Dreams" (including 2 straight minutes of feedback! )

I'm completely disappointed in the user base by the fact that I'm the 19th post and am still the first to say Faith No More's "Epic".

Sheesh...
