I know, I know, I'm going against the holy parchment of no patronizing guitar, but I thought it would be cool to see what everyone's favorites solos were.
Some of mine:
Reelin' In the Years - Steely Dan (Elliot Randall)
Under a Glass Moon - Dream Theater (John Petrruci)
Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix (amazing rythm playing in the song also)
Unforgiven - Metallica (Kirk Hammett)
Just to name a few of course. I know I have more.

I also dig a lot of work by Petrucci, really cool stuff IMO. Steely Dan has some great ones too. Bodhisattva is the jam! Then there's Pink Floyd, lots to like there, too many to list. |

Also, pretty much anything played by Eddie Hazel (Parliament-Funkadelic). RIP. One of his best performances is on the track 'Super Stupid'
It's a shame that most people haven't heard of these guys.

As Woodchuck said is Mark Knopflers solo on Sultans of swing really good.
I can't help but liking Eddie(?) van Halens solo on Jump.

To get a little on topic, Paul McCartney's solos on "Taxman" are pretty great, too.
And Nigel Tufnel's Solo on the title track from Spinal Tap's "Break Like The Wind" is awesome. |
