High on Fire drummer Des Kensel's performance on "The Art of Self Defense (album)."
Really, it's hard to narrow down a track that I think has the best drum performance. It's not overly flashy, but it's super tight, great bass drum activity. I'm not sure, but I believe he plays single kick... not a whole lot of double bass: I love double bass, but I think that's what separates High on Fire from being a thrash band. Just super heavy grooves the whole time, amazing fills too, once again not over the top flashy, but they just fit so well.

but I watched an .mpg file of Joey Jordison (sp?) playing a massive kit, which proceeded to playing the kit while being suspended in midair, and then rotated. It was very interesting. |

He has some bunk sounding hi hats and the mix doesnt emphasize the drums, but I love the complexity of what he does.

Ha, really? If that is how I envisioned it, isn't that exactly what Tommy Lee did with Motley Crue? Not a knot fan, but he's a pretty decent drummer.

not much of a Knot fan either, just thought I should dabble in it as my roommate was really into them. |
