An early Michael Jackson tune called "Darling Dear", he's practically playing a bass solo through the entire song while still holding the groove down in his own Jamerson-esque way.

It's nice to see this thread again. I don't know why it just wasn't moved here instead of having it shut down.

Personally, my favorites are What's Going On and For Once in My Life.

Ditto on the Gladys Knight version of Grapevine.

I think it was Bob Babbitt who played on Signed Sealed Delivered.

I'd have to go with Bernadette and What's Goin' On. Those lines are awesome. Though I'm addmittedly behind on my Motown knowledge (been digging into the SITSoM book lately quite a bit).

I Was Made to Love Her
Home Cookin'
Ain't No Mountain High Enough (both versions)

...one tune that's not mentioned too often is:

It's A Shame (Spinners, I think?)
This one really grooves!

I hate to rain on the parade, but actually every one of these songs that we listed was actually played by Carol Kaye. She ended up using a flatpicked danalectro miked through an old victrola phonograph. Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Oh, and Bootsy Collins was the ghost musician behind the early Beach Boy recordings

I think this is highly debatable....check out this link:

Old victrola phonograph? Ok, you're joking about the whole thing, right?

I was going to say that one but didn't know for sure who played bass on that cut, I love the stares and smiles I get when I play that one on my bass!
