Mine has to be Frank Zappa's Mr.Green Genes. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x88...-origina_music ( Pay no attention to the video,it was the only recording I could find online)
The harmonic content in this tune is amazing,yet the lyrics are very absurd.I know there are a ton of other Zappa tunes that would qualify for this thread.You could pretty much include the whole Residents catalogue too,tho they are pretty much straight on weird.
I think Boris The Spider deserves special recognition as a pioneering weird tune.

Most people just download their music these days- but for those who still do or remember buying cds: have you ever just bought something on a whim that you knew little to nothing about, and it turned out to be something that you liked and would call a favorite? Well, Aural sculpture was one of those records for me. I probably read about it in Rolling Stone or something (back when I read that mag)- but man I couldnt get away from that record back then  |
