Favourite modern rock/metal riffs?

There's probably more, but right now, I feel that

Filter - Hey man, nice shot

and

Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the name

are pure genius. Now post yours and let's rawk!

By the way, "Hey man..." is a nice finger twister if you play it on a fiver in standard tuning, just try it.

I agree on the cult of personality suggestion. That was an amazing riff, great rhythm section in general. I'm not sure that song qualifies as modern rock or metal though, it's kind of old now. Whatever though, it still rocks. Living Colour has a new cd out this yr but I haven't heard anything from it yet.

I'll add , Murderdolls "love at first fright" to the list. Good motley crue style rock with a little bit of funny/scary shock kind of lyrics. Cool band in general, one of the only modern metal bands I've been able to get into.

Yeah, I guess "COP" is kind of old now. Time flies.
BTW & IMO..."Modern" doesn't necessarily = 'being in the present' or 'current'.
To my ears, some '60s Rock sounds "Modern" even by today standards(while some of '00s Rock sounds dated).

"Modern Jazz" is anything post-1940.

Ha, all these modern rock songs are about a decade old.

I love the main chord riff in "Stream of Consciousness " by Dream Theater. Veyr emotional chord progression, and it just sounds amazing!
