Feedback please?

Hi everyone in TB land, haven't been on here in a while, I've been recording my band from home.

Could I ask for some honest feedback on one of our songs please?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated, it'll help us improve as a band.

Thank you.

This song is called New Disease. (Warning Metal content).

I like it but mabey you could eq. The symbols a little bit more, the high end is a little sharp on the ears. Now im not a longtime Talkbass member but thats just my opinion.

I hear cues to Korn, Megadeth and even a little A7X. Not personally a huge fan of the style but then I'm old Sounds pretty tight though. Keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback chaps, slightly updated version here. https://soundcloud.com/nigel-matthew.../new-disease-1
Is it the guitars, or the mix as a whole that is a bit sharp?

The guitarists wanted a very crunchy sound (not to mention a load of bottom end, once they had done their eq I was not to touch it, I tried to explain that the higher eq such as 16khz and 20khz need rolling off, but they said they are needed for higher notes.

But anyway I went and made a few small changes (without them knowing) .

Rolled off the guitars low end, as they were treading in the bass guitars territory, talking as low as 80hz 100hz etc (guitarists for ya eh? Lol).
Rolled off the high end slightly on guitars, boost the bass guitars mids a tad to break through the mix.

Recording and mixing isn't as easy as people think, trying to eq everything so that it has it's own place in the mix is not a walk in the park, especially when you got guitarist who want 'their sound'.

You go that right!
I spend many, many more hours on EQing, effecting, panning, mixing & demo'ing than the actual recording of instruments..
Good work, man.

Don't let the following comments sway you. I dig it, but here's my feedback.

This is a personal preference thing... Panned guitars bug me & so does a lot of gating/compression. I'd un-pan the guitars and let the instruments & vocals breathe more.

In general, I think it needs more bottom. Maybe not so much compression will help this? Bass is buried through my headphones (Audion-Technica M20s) and the drums should come up a touch.

The drum sound is good. The vocal sound is good. Two of the hardest things to get right so good job there.

Kinda has a Korn/Tool vibe at times. Not sure if that's what you're going for, but it's what I got.

Cheers for the further feedback, the drums were up originally, but the vocalist wanted his voice up front, so they told me to turn the drums and bass down. And the singer is a massive Korn fan, the rest of the band are fans also, not as big as him tough, the guitarists are more Machine Head and Slipknot fans, I'm more into Stone Sour, but I'll listen to anything.

Managed to roll off the high end a bit, and boost the bass guitar.

Not sure what this sounds like to you in TB land, but it doesn't sound too bad in my headphones. (Not too sure if there's too much bass now?)

Thanks, I've boosted the drums a tad now, hopefully that will be the final mix, lol.
