Fellow bass players you gotta check out...

the Lionel Richie Live in Paris DVD that came out this year.
Weather you like or dislike lionel or his music is not really relevant to the point I want to make. The point I want to make is that the musicianship is simply OUTSTANDING, just about perfect is the word! The lesson I took from the DVD was one of how to play a supporting role in a band and yet keep it happ'nin!! They have a bass player named Derek Allen who misses NOTHING and adds so much flavor. My man Oscar Seton is killing on drums as well. These cats duck in and out of Rock, funk and latin as if they were born playing. There are really no solos outside of the guitarist and sax now and then, however the talent level and unity of these guys made me want to shut the TV off at times.
Another killer live band I'm listening to right now are the cats backing The Jacksons on their 1981 live album. Love or hate the Jackson boys, that band is simply killing. Check Mike Mckinny on bass and Jonathan Moffet on bass... What a team!!!

Thanks,

KT

+1 on the Lionel Richie DVD. I had the pleasure of sitting next to his bass player on a flight from Toronto. Great guy.
