First Album - Like it / hate it?

Hey Guys,

My band Cotton just released its first album and I was wondering if some of ya would be kind enough to give some of the tunes a listen through and give some feedback. Some constructive comments would be awesome whether it be positive or negative (Bass, Singer, Guitard, Music, Website, etc..)

Its the band's first finished product that we've put out and we're all really open and curious as to what people's reactions are to it. With this album we are really looking to use the feedback in order to continuously better our sound and make a sustainable marketable product.

Cotton

The songs are all at the top of the website on soundcloud.
(PS: "Settle for less" has no bass )

I listened through 4 or 5 tracks.

I will be honest and say that it's not really my kind of music, but that's just my personal, subjective tastes.

SO, to be objective I will say that I think it is very well done! The production is crisp, the playing is very tight--some excellent musicianship--but it really keeps the groove without it getting to be like a showcase for a bunch of soloists. The sound and the songs are cohesive and catchy and it's the kind of thing that I could see being very popular. Obviously a lot of hard work went into it. And the result is really good. Good job.

My only criticism is that I don't find it terribly distinctive or possessed of a lot of its own personality. But that's just me trying to find something constructive to say, or to balance the positive things I said. You should be proud regardless. Doing the work to produce and release an album is a lot more than many musicians ever do.

Best of luck!

Thanks so much for the listen through!
And although it might not be considered purely "objective", whether or not its someone's cup of tea is definitely a major factor into making the music. (so long as its not the only factor imho)
We actually started out about 2 years ago as a folksy jam band, but were looking to go with something a little bit more close to the norm nowadays while still putting out music that we were comfortable with.

We still have a lot of work to do and I'm hoping our future products evolve into something more complete as we continue to figure out what makes us "us", especially with the new direction we've taken. But as of now, with only spending 2 grand on recording and still polishing up our skills musically and artistically, we're fairly happy with the outcome.

Also, If anyone else has released something I'd be honored to give it a listen and put in my 2 cents as well!

I kind of like it. It sounds like sublime/yellowcard/coldplay and some other bands in there. I have to say though the drum at the start of "Atlantic City Eyes" reminds me of the intro to Stay Away by NIRVANA but that is nothing. Im not saying he ripped Nirvanas drums off it just sounds similar lol I mean he only plays it 2 times in the song. I like the few songs I listened to even though its not really the music I listen to.
