hey so our worship leader at church just threw me a txt message (sms) before and asked if i would like to lay down some bass for some of his songs. naturally i said yes, always keen to hang out and do things musical haha.

so we are recording 4 songs in a "live" setting (i say that cause its in our church auditorium and we'll all be recording together), and i was wondering, what would be the best way to record bass?

should i go straight into the recording interface? or go via the amps "effects" out? (the amp has no di, its an older fender b300r or something like that).

no i realise that if i go through the amp it'll create a lot of stage noise and inherently bleed into the drum mics which are right next to it. and if i go straight in, i can use headphones.

problem is no one else will be able to hear the bass and ill have no eq.

i suppose its just minor and we'll work something out there, but it has got me thinking. might see if i can borrow one of the guitarists effects pedals, (delay, drive, comp) to give a little more of a vintage / nicer sound. unless the recording software has some amp modeling capabilities lol...

anyway im looking forward to recording and sorry to everyone for waffling.

i suppose if anyone can give any advice as to recording vs playing live it'll be really appreciated.

cheers
thomas
