Fretless Piccolo "lead bass"

Hi friends - I just posted a new tune on my myspace player featuring yours truly on lead piccolo fretless bass.

It's a tune off Jeff Dodd's new acoustic piccolo bass CD called "Falling Awake".

Jeff Dodd plays piccolo acoustic bass for the harmony - and I play the melody and solo on electric piccolo fretless (pedulla) and the ambient layer underneath also on the pedulla.

The tune is titled "Topeka (in the rear view mirror)"

you can hear the whole thing at

http://www.myspace.com/jeffschmidtbassist

Jeff Dodd's CD also features some amazing bass work by Yves Carbonne, Jonni Lightfoot, Brady Muckelroy, Tony Franklin, Russ Hoges & Michael Manring. All bass!

I did a podcast interview with Jeff Dodd about the project which can be downloaded here - it includes some sample from other tracks on the cd as well.

Oh yeah - the last track on Jeff's CD is title "Things to Come"- it's just him playing acoustic piccolo bass and he's hoping other players of all kinds (maybe even you!) will hear it and feel compelled to add their own melody and accompaniment the same way we all did with his other tracks. You can hear that at Jeff Dodd's myspace site

www.myspace.com/jeffdodd

hope you enjoy.

Fine work, Jeff. Ears are a wonderful thing, eh? I look forward to meeting you at Lodo in August.

I dig it a lot, great playing. Not to derail the thread, but this is something I've wondered for a while: A few myspace pages have more than 4 songs, that's the limit for my bands. How did you add more than 4 songs? Did you have to pay or something?

Awesome tune once again.

And once again, not to derail the thread, but I'm listening to your other stuff, Thumb is mindblowing. It's so rare that I hear solo bass compositions and think of them as sounding complete. The harmonics and percussive slaps/taps, sounds almost orchestral, so amazing...

thanks. no - you don't have to pay - just add these people as friends

not sure who they are (never bothered to check) - but that's the way you get 5 tunes on myspace.

Jeff your track is great. I look forward to your solo disc. But you and I are going to have words if you spell my name wrong again (settle folks this is sarcasm at work)! Hodges, man I am a shameless self promoter.

On a serious and more relevant note, I would love to work with you in the future.

Take care,
Russ
