Id suggest listening to 13 steps down, and To stand Alone.

Its just a demo, a nice sounding one but not perfectly mixed. And some of the guitar solo's sound a tad funky, but they're played exactly as intended. He's really into the prog metal hah

I'm listening now, will edit with opinion....

edit, I think with a little vocal refinement and better mixing this could be really quite good.

The thing the sticks out to me most is they have some moments of sheer metal riff brilliance.

I like it.

Thanks much for the response. They have some really good songs, all of them are college educated musicians.

Their recording engineer was retarded, they're having it re-mastered by a friend. The buddy couldn't get them studio time, but he has a studio at home for mixing alone and can work on that for them.

I REALLY like. Only things I think would be better is a Keyboard for texture.

Interesting, their songs are getting a little heavier lately and even though they are fans of the instrument, they don't want one in their project.

Did they use Lars' drum kit? Sounds like a bunch of trash cans being hit.

I wouldn't consider this "progressive" in the sense that they're not doing anything that hasn't been done before. It actually sounds more like old school influenced metal with hints of 90's groove metal. There are many good riffs though, and the occassional chordal playing the bassist was doing really creates a wall of sound with the guitars. As has been said, a good reproduction will bring quite a bit more life and depth out of this music.

Well, most people consider progressive metal as the guitar-driven sound of metal with more complex compositional structure, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing.

They have a lot of influences, but id say they are more like a heavier Dream Theater, im sure they would disagree, haha.

Many people call things "progressive" as a status quo these days. Really, this band hasn't done anything that other bands like Mercyful Fate, Angel Witch, or Metal Church haven't done years ago. It's an individual's call what they want to call it, but it seems like many people these days don't realize that complicated riffs have existed for a long time. They fell out of popularity in the 90's and they seem to be trickling back in recent years, but they're not new at all.

Of course, as I said, I enjoyed listening to the band's music. However, a fan expecting something outside the box would be disappointed listening to this band, and truthfully, I was expecting something new at first. That's my point about the "progressive" label of this band.

i agree with this. i know that "prog rock" bands like rush and yes were revolutionary and creative, but, IMO/IME, when people use the term "progressive" to describe metal, they are usually referring to complex song structures, odd time signatures, and difficult instrumental parts more so than actual innovation.

edit: forgot to mention, great band.

Oh I know what you're saying, and I agree. A lot of their influences are older bands. Its just another label now, but, its the label they fall under.
