Yay! this was fun. Some strange but very (deceptively) simple stuff going on in this tune.

edit: just to be clear, this is me playing some Mick Karn riffs

Saday Maday:

The tab on the Feta Funk web page for this was off, but the Dalis Car tab provided the "key".

I like that fretless sound.

Do you have any idea of the bass he used ?

Mick Karn has played Wal's for ever, I'd assume that's what he's using

Do you mean me, or Mick Karn?

Both of those files (me) are my Hanewinckel 6-string fretless. Bridge pickup dual-coil on the first, both pickups w/ coils tapped on the second. On both, the bass line is double tracked, one hard left and one hard right.

Sometimes happens that I download some audio clips
and don`t take note about the player and/or the bass.
This is one of those examples.

I heard the track and just LOVED that fretless tone.
I have another Hanewinckel clip (maybe it`s yours too) and
is another one of my favs.

Anyway, congrats. Superb tone.

Someone asked me for the notes - here's a quick tab

intro riff:

Code:
------------------------
----5----------0-3-3----
-------0-3-3-5----------
-3-------------------0-0
         h h h
(there's a ghost note before that open A I didn't tab)

verse riff:
Code:
---0-9-9-11-11--------------------------------------
----------------0-9-9-11-11-------------------------
-R---------------------------0-9-9-11---------------
---------------------------------------0---0--------
     h h h h h h
The trick is doing a hammer-on then plucking the same note quickly. Except for the one part in the intro riff where you hammer on to the 5th-fret D on the A string, then actually pluck the open D string.

There are four variations on the embellishments at the end of the verse riff. The first is a slide/hammer-on between the G and A on the E string. The second is some chromatically ascending major third double-stops. The third is a big slide up and back down to an E on the G string, then a pull off to the open G. The fourth is a hammer on from the open D to the F, then from the open G to the Bb which you slide up and pull off to the open G.

I'll skip tabbing Saday Maday - but as a hint, it uses a lot of the same stuff as Dalis Car - open string hammer ons, then plucking the same note, or the equivalent open string. Just that the fretted notes are up about an octave higher. And the rhythm isn't as straightforward.

Thanks Man!

It is good to see my ear is getting better, as I had the notes correct. This rhythm and speed is just tough!

Oops - I had the verse riff incorrect, that's what I get for typing that up without my bass handy.

The "Dali's Car" line is awesome, I remember that one from seeing Mick playing live on The Old Grey Whistle Test with Angie Bowie.
