This was an experiment at first; I tracked about ten minutes worth of drums and then spent a long time chopping them up, partly for fun and also as a way to learn the editing process on my new daw. I didn't know what to do with it until I started playing with some beat delay on the snare and then it just kept on going...
I might mess with it again someday but for now i'm tired of working on it but think it's fun to listen to. It's very different from anything i've ever produced before. I'm really enjoying getting fat sounds from my fretless! http://danielb.bandcamp.com/track/on-the-waves

I never used to like it that much, but it has grown on me over time, though i'd prefer to have a nice custom pedal board someday.
I'd have to check to see what the settings are, there is a mild phase and i'm using a wah as well. Thanks for checking it out!

Perhaps try to have your vocals on a track unaffected and then on a separate track have the same vocal track with a delay on it. As it stands, with the delay on it, it seems a little lost in the mix.
Also just a personal preference, I would dump the guitar solo, and perhaps just let the music 'space' out a little there. Have a few guitar hits that are kind of spacey and reverbed out. In my experiments with dub (you can hear my links in my sig) I've found blazing solos are kind of replaced with spaced out break-downs instead. That's what makes it 'dubby', if you know what I mean.
But overall this is a cool track. I'd be curious as to your opinion on my stuff, since we play similar music. Throw it up on my 'give me feedback' thread. |

I hadn't listened to this track for a few weeks and definitely see the little solo section as out of place. I cleaned up the vox a bit too, took your advice and added another dry track to mix with the other two.
This is the first thing i've ever recorded that has any kind of dub sound, which wasn't even intentional at all, but I love dub-style music and play a lot of reggae influenced grooves.
By the way I checked out one of your tracks, you got the real thing going on there! Sweet! This song is just me messing around in my studio, although we will probably adopt a version of it with one of my bands.
Also i'm working on mastering the track a bit, it already sounds a lot more full. I think there is a little more to add to it too before I repost it, though...

I suggest you a bit more syncopation in the bass line. Maybe not let the notes ring out as long.
Could you post your recording setup? Thanks. |
