I think the term "Funk" is relative, Im 55 and when my 19 year old son talks about funk we are talking about two different things. Anyway I wanted to share 2 examples of a long forgotten brand of funk. It's they we used to get down.I am trying to bring this type of sound back with my band sadley, it's not working.
Please take a listen focus on the bass work, both are primative recording by todays standard, but it's the way this type of message gets across.
BTW, both tracks are "crackin"

I consider the stuff you posted funk...but on the groove side...
When I think pure unadulterated funk...I have to always give it up to James Brown. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl-2h9mqeIs

The bass line on that Dyke & The Blazers track is just killer. Thanks for posting that. |

As I mentioned , the term "Funk" is relative. James Brown is in the top 5. However, keep in mind, Dyke & the Blazer never had 1 hit, very underground.
You have to put your "ghetto" on to get into their groove. "The bass line is Killer"
