I remember that for a while i lost my callouses on my thumb because I was so deep into Leon Sylvers and Bernard Edwards that I pretty much stopped slapping. I even set up my Rickenbacker like Leon Sylvers, I put on flatwounds, and I turned up my mutes all the way. I got the sound, but I am really used to the feel of roundwounds, I can play faltwounds, but they just feel funny to me.

My thing is, I love funk! Not just the 'slap' aspect but all of it and the work Leon Sylvers put in is not only classic but unique and innovative. I've not heard another bassist play like that! I put Mark Adams in that category as well! His use of slides, trills, double stops and a chorus/flanger effect blew my mind back in the day! |

Last I heard Leon was hanging with Teddy Riley when he was in Virginia (he's since left). I thought I read Foster was into religion or something to that effect. |

From what I hear Foster still works with artists out there, he does have a website, you may have to google it.

Leon had what I think is the same black and white Rickenbacker 4001 that he had when I saw Dynasty live around 1978 or 1979.
An added treat to that show was that it showed Billy Preston and the great Keni Burke was on bass with a 1970's Jazz that was already seriously mojoed about thirty years ago!
