I think I heard perhaps my most ideal bass tone yesterday. It was at the beginning of groovallegiance. at least I'm pretty sure, it was my friend's cd and I can't remember anymore.
is there anyone who knows who played on that track or what equipment they used? sounded like the most smooth groovy fretless bass I've ever heard.
oh, and this album is awesome.

| | | | Sounds like a passive bass with a little bit of a phaser with a wee boot of distortion. But that might just be coming from the speakers and how loud he's playin. Lots of mid's. Don't be afraid to use mid's. That whole scoop sound where it's just bass and treble and no mid's just don't work. You can hear the E string and the G string. If you don't want to hear the A and the D just take them off cuz that's effectively what you do when you use the "scoop" eq.

Possibly just a fretless jazz bass? I really love that tone. Never played fretless but now it seems inevitable.
