Great track! Really cool groove. That's the best tune on "Man Child" imo.

Although everybody understandably digs "Headhunters" for the pioneering fusion work, I also like his later disco/vocoder stuff on "Feets Don't Fail Me Now". At the time everybody yelled "sellout" but it was only because HH was so well known as a jazz artist. If anybody else had made the record it would have been hailed as some of the most funky and innovative disco stuff around at the time.

Check this out:

(By the way, this thread should really be in the "Recordings" forum, I'll ask one of my mod buddies for Misc. to move it.)

Holy funk that's funky!!!

Even though Headhunters helped me to graduate high school (long story)... I was always more of a fan of Thrust...

This tune is too cool though... anyone who called him a sellout is simple a dolt... this is great

Thanks for the thread redirect btw... didn't know where to put this

Really? To me "Hang Up Your Hang-ups" isn't really all that funky as far as funky tracks go. Yes, it's funky in a general pop context, but it would be a lot funkier if it was, for example, considerably slower. This to me is very rock by funk standards.

This really isn't fair. There's got to be a periodic table of funk. There's just too much to settle it down on *one* Funkiest tune.

Oh... it's just not complete.

I'll amend my previous post with this

Tossup between Ebony Jam (Tower of Power) or Actual Proof (Headhunters), or The Jam (Graham Central Station), Children Say (Level42, or just about anything Mark King does), or the entire "Naughty" album by Chaka Khan (Anthony Jackson is a monster on this)

Shoot just one?!

Funk-A

WRT Tower of Power, I just caught them in Buffalo last fall. Always great to see and hear Rocco. A great band. Every time they come to the area, I'm there.

Children Say is a great funk groove - possibly my favourite L42/Mark King track. I always play that when I want show off my stereo/sub woofer to people!

"What Is Hip" is pretty classic too. I really enjoy covering that one with the big band I play with.
