I just got a very nice IMAC setup with the works for amateur recording. I know how to work the program it self as far as making music. Setting it all up is not something I know how to do. I even have the Garageband book. I did what it said for hooking up the interface and keyboard. Changed my audio preferences. I still have no sound. What am I not doing right here?

Have you tried turning on the monitor? On the bottom right, there is an option for it.

First:-Make a new "instrument" by pushing the "alt","apple" and "N" buttons at the same time.

Second:-Choose "Real Instrument" (you can choose between real and software instruments)

Third:-Adjust the input on the bottom right (channel 1,2-they're both mono and Channel 1&2 is stereo. you need this if you have a bass with stereo output)

Fourth:-turn on the monitor as stated above, and adjust the input volume

If isn't working I don't know. I use the Garage band on my MacBook this way and it works fine!

IMPORTANT! Use a proper headphone to improve the quality, and plug in your headphone before all this. The sound would be delayed if plugging in after opening Garage Band...

You need to select the output & input in the preferances in the program and in the computer's system preferances.

Be sure the computer's volume is up as well

I use garage band and I got a midi box to covert the 8th inputs on the mac to quarter and mic inputs. Then u use the plus sign at the bottom left and create a real instrument track. On the bottom right turn the moniter on and put it on mono 1 or something like that and then your ready to record.

Try going to the "Garage Band" tab, then preferences. Select the "Audio/Midi" tab and selected your desired ins outs.

That was my problem when I first got garage band anyway.

After that select the input for the desired track and make sure monitoring is turned on.

Goodluck.

I've been starting to get used to Garageband lately, having some fun and just using it as a practice tool, but I recently ran into a problem with the Monitor option.

So, first I added a track from iTunes--a track from my band, and I recorded one bassline over it in Stereo. Then, I tried to record a second bassline on a new track to go with those other two and I couldn't get the program to accept another Stereo track, but I could record a Mono track. What gives? Thanks much, J

Theres a book called Garageband Ignite.. Its only like 2 or 3 dollars(atleast where i live it is). It is a great book. Soon as I can find where I put it I will look in it and try to help you fix your problem.

Thanks a lot! I just realized I screwed up my own question, though. I meant to switch around the Stereo/Mono thing. In other words, I could record a stereo track, but not another Mono track. Either way, I couldn't switch between the two.

The book wasn't really helpful except in telling all the wonders the program can bring. I can only assume something might turned off in your settings or maybe your audio/midi preferences are set wrong. Sorry Im not much of help
