Any Gentle Giant fans out there?
Their bassist, Ray Shulman, was an unsung hero in my book.

I was turned on to these guys a little over a year ago (Giant in a Box). I did find him to be quite impressive. Love the tone outta his p-bass. It's kinda tough deciding the native instrument for some of the members as they can all play just about anything you put in their hands. Overall amazing artists.

Might not be everyone's cup of tea...but a great group to watch perform (if nothing else).

I've been been a big fan of them since the late '70s. Got most all of their stuff on vinyl and a few CD's too. Wish I could have seen them live though.

I'm lucky enough to have seen them live three times in the 70's. One of the things that always struck me was that they played their complex compositions note perfect live and at the same tempi. On top of that they'd throw in a little improv - it was intense.
Here's a really cool reference of all of their concerts

Gentle Giant was never my style, but I did see them once, live, backing up Jethro Tull, and remember them being quite impressive...

...fast forward 25-30 years, and I wound up jamming in a band with a guy named Mike Gende, doing 60's - 70's covers...

...Mike has a band called Gende's Giant, a tribute to...(you guessed it...)

Gentle Giant fans, check it out:
