Good find. Also try Ghana Soundz Vols I and II. Tell me you don't hear a lot of JB in that, or a lot of that in JB.

Yes those are great, chanced upon them looking for further Ghanaian sounds.

Vol II sounds impressive!

There's definitely a good JB influence in both of these clips. but it's the case with a lot of African music from that era.

Lately my musical director got me into Ghanean Highlife music. He is from canada but fell in love with that music.

He want us to cover this tune which is a modern take on the typical Highlife. Very colorful bass line

Great, something of Paul Simon's Graceland about this, I forget which one, 'I know what I know' maybe.

Actually reminds me far more of an album that my folks used to play, wonderful African group who's name now I entirely forget. Given me reason to find out!

cheers

Yeah, same orchestration and same tempo as well.

I’d put it into the African Salsa category. Very popular dance music throughout Africa in the 60’s 70’s along with its “James Brown/funkish” counterpart.

Here is another African Salsa band from Senegal called Africando; it sounds much closer to Orchestra Baobab IMO Senegal - Africando Oldies - Dagamasi - YouTube
