Anybody here familiar with the band Goblin? Italian prog rock band, mostly active in the 70s and best known for their horror soundtrack work for Dario Argento.
I just got one of their albums, 'Roller', and the bass just kills!
It's some seriously up front in the mix Rickenbacker action, often with a dollop of wah/flange on the top. Fabio Pignatelli is quite the underrated bass man, sounds like a pick player but often playing lines that would usually be slapped. But it really works.
The music sounds a bit like Pink Floyd or Focus playing Mike Oldfield, but with a lot of funk thrown in for grins. It's quite a spellbinding sound.
Anyway I'm going to see them live in a couple of weeks, can't wait.

| | | | It seems like it’s just me and you. The bass player is brilliant. Just listen to his killer bass lines on Deep Red and Tenebrae. Im still praticing the last one, and its pretty difficult. It reminds of the bassline from River People by Weather Report.
I hope you have a great time at the concert. I whish I could have been there. |

| | | | No No I love Goblin, PFM and especially Gentle Giant. The bass is mixed so well in these group's collected works.
Rickys and Rippers and P's oh my..... |

. | I got mine on Ebay, from an Italian trader. Including shipping, worked out at about £15, the English sellers were charging over £20.
'Back to the Goblin', the 'reunion' album, is only available from their website, or at the gigs.

Amazing. That's awesome he plays a Rick. | You should have heard him the other night... A new definition of growl.. Or clank, or grunt, or whatever you like. A truly jaw-dropping tone. I'm considering getting rid of all my gear and getting one of those old Rick reissues... Well in my dreams maybe.

My only complaint is that half of the songs on it take a while to get going, but that's a non-issue in the days of mp3. Any other Goblin albums you guys recommend? I'm on a purchase jag
