Gojira are frickin' excellent, From Mars to Sirius is great. It's like Morbid Angel but less technical, more lucid if that makes sense.

Have you heard Mithras? Check them out if you dig Gojira, the album Worlds Beyond the Veil in particular.

France has a huge (relative term) black metal scene right now, lots of great stuff happening there with Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, etc.

One of the few contemporary metal bands that say anything to me.

I just blasted their new album in my car. I don't know how the drummer plays like that, but it's the guitar playing I really like. It's metal, but they don't really use the same tired old licks that some metal bands use. You never know what to expect with Gojira.

I love Gojira. My buddy saw them live a couple times and says they're excellent. I haven't had the pleasure, but I don';t know if there's ever really a bad show from a prog metal type band. I think to play the music on a technical level as they do, you have to be disciplined enough to just play.

The drumming reminds me of Fear Factory
