Good Horn Lines

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,
I'm looking for some songs with good hornlines. I usually dont listen to they type of music that uses horns so i'm i dont know really were to look. To be honest, what i want to do is kinda imitate them on bass. I heard that it is a solid way to improve hearing, playing and get some new riffs under my belt.
Yeah so if you guys could point me in the right direction, of the whole funk horn grooves or whatever that would be great.
Thanks

get some older jazz classics

Miles Davis Kind of Blue
John Coltrane -Coltrane
Mingus - Ah Um & Mingus Mingus Mingus

horn lines are not necessarily imitated on bass, not saying you cant do it but they usually have different duties

if you are trying to cop bebob horn lines on bass then you need to look at the bebop era which is 1958 and earliier (for the origins) Dizzy, Miles, Parker

"Roll Out" by Ludacris is a fun one if you like hip hop. I don't normally like that style but Ludacris is funny and some of his tunes are really catchy. Guilty pleasure I guess.

The Brecker Brothers - Some Skunk Funk - I prefer the Heavy Metal Be-bop version. Hell, anything by them will do. Sponge is another amazing song from that album with some great soloing.
