What are some easy/standard songs with good grooves you can vamp on with a small rhythm section? Something in the vein of

Herbie Hancock - Chameleon
Stevie Wonder - Superstitious

etc...

One song which is brilliant to jam on is "Let us Go Into the House of Lord" by John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana from the "Love Devotion Surrender" album. For about 13 of the songs 15 minutes, they seem to solo over the chords. It really is a fantastic song to listen to and to work with yourself.

So you're looking for one or two-chord vamps. Just look around a real book and you'll find a few.

Similar to "Chameleon"? More fare in "Bb"...
> Herbie Hancock's "Wiggle Waggle"
> Eddie Harris' "Freedom Jazz Dance"
> Joe Zawinul's "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy"

Similar to "Superstition"?
How about "I Wish"?
