Hey,

im not too sure. i only really got into recording a few months ago when i got my computer in my room.
the thing what annoys me about Audacity is that i have to set the mic input at 0.1 otherwise when i play a low note it distorts (goes red in the soundwaves(?))

what are some good features you need in a recording program?

Reaper

Reaper is a powerful and well supported DAW at a very reasonable price, it's constantly being updated and has a good support section on its forum. Just have a browse through their website.

+1. Reaper is awesome.

If you use the line out of your head you have to use the line in on your computer. The mic in is designed for much, much lower input levels - i.e. for a microphone.

Add a track (Ctrl + T) and click the little red record button that is on the track. That arms the track for recording. Pay attention if you are doing multitracks, because you can record to multiple tracks at the same time.

RTFM.

Reaper is now my program of choice for recording and mixing. It does take some learning to use its features (understatement - you could spend years learning how to be a good engineer with Reaper or any high end DAW), but starting out isn't too hard. But please, read the manual. You'll find that a more efficient way to learn than posting a question every time you get stuck, honestly.

I know this thread is an old one, but i didnt want to start a new one on the same topic.
