i currently use Audacity but would like something more advanced.
i run it: warwick corvette rockbass>effects>warwick profet 3.2>line out output>computer. any other way i should be setting up the chain for recording?
cheers,

the thing what annoys me about Audacity is that i have to set the mic input at 0.1 otherwise when i play a low note it distorts (goes red in the soundwaves(?))
what are some good features you need in a recording program? |

If you use the line out of your head you have to use the line in on your computer. The mic in is designed for much, much lower input levels - i.e. for a microphone. |

how can i fix this problem? | Add a track (Ctrl + T) and click the little red record button that is on the track. That arms the track for recording. Pay attention if you are doing multitracks, because you can record to multiple tracks at the same time.

Reaper is now my program of choice for recording and mixing. It does take some learning to use its features (understatement - you could spend years learning how to be a good engineer with Reaper or any high end DAW), but starting out isn't too hard. But please, read the manual. You'll find that a more efficient way to learn than posting a question every time you get stuck, honestly.
