I've recently found myself increasingly drawn to the study of bossa nova through my increasing study of jazz bass.
I am hoping that some TBers can help me in studying this by suggesting some of the most essential bossa nova bands, solo artists and recordings so that I may get a 'real-life' feel for the style of the bass.
Any era or artist will do, as long as it's bossa nova! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

As mentioned above, anything with Joćo Gilberto. Also check for Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes and Baden Powell

Almost forgot: there's this singer/songwritter, Tom Zé, who is not really a bossa-novista. Anyway, he has made an album entitled "Estudando a Bossa Nova" (studying the Bossa Nova), in which he makes a historical analysis and de-constructs the genre and its mannerisms in a critical way.
David Byrne is on it, I believe.
Well, it might not sound like the standards we all got used to, but it's an interesting take.
