Gospel/Funk WORSHIP songs

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone!
My worship leader is looking to expand to different genres of songs,
we usually play an alternative rock feel, and I was looking into
introducing gospel/funky songs that are Christian-based, or even for worship.
I thought this would be really cool, because I could employ my slapping abilities for once, and it'd be something that most people haven't seen before, a slap bassist.

Not only that, but gospel/funk songs, are very good for getting people into the music and worship which I like alot too!

So please hit me up with some good songs!
Thanks

I may not be spelling her name right but Martha Minnuzzi is the best of both worlds. She has some funky slap songs along with some worship songs. Our choir had done her song Glorious since it came out.
Micah Stampley is another artist you might want to check out.

Donnie McClurkin - Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs.

+ 1 Martha Munizzi & Israel and New Breed, they share musicians, the music is really on point.

Especially the Alive in South Africa CD.

Clint Brown is another good Artist.

check out tommy walker. the guy has some kind of degree in jazz/fusion composition/performance. alot of his stuff is on the "funkier" side. we play his song called "mourning into dancing" at our church pretty often, and it is a blast! it has a really cool funky breakdown in it.

There are soooooooooo many great gospel songs featuring great bassists! Here is a very small slice of the pie:

-"High Praise"-The Anointed Pace Sisters featuring the amazing Darrell Freeman!

-"God Is"-New Birth Total Praise Choir featuring Darrell Freeman again

-"I Want My Destiny" (live)-Fred Hammond featuring Maurice Fitzgerald playing on of the most incredible basses on the planet-the Peavey Cirrus! Also the studio version by the man himself-Fred Hammond

"Let Us Go Into The House"-Joe Pace featuring Simeon Baker

"He's Worthy"-Youthful Praise. I am not sure who the bassist is. Possibly Dwayne Wright.

Again, there are so many more gospel songs featuring amazing bassists-too many to list! The key is to listen, listen, listen............!
