Amazing gigs for that guy, especially over such a long period of time.
Nice player (that's an understatement of course!)... that old school, passive, compressed, ganky, grindy 70's J tone (versus Marcus Miller's more open active pre 70's J tone). I see that Hartke 410 behind him, which was the weapon of choice for J Bass funker's back then, usually with a GK RB head. I still get those as backline on occasion and they still sound good for what they are!

His brother Valdez is also a top level keyboard player and is Usher's music director. |

So many amazing players are either from here or currently playing here.
Pretty amazing that he is now on tour with Gaga. That band looks SMOKING.

Amazing playing, but they seemed to be phoning it in a bit. Still, always wonderful to see that level of musicianship, but sometimes a melody and bridge section can go a long way to making me happy!
That being said... Detroit is a great place to be for bass and hearing some amazing acts in small clubs regularly.

Here's a clip of Kern Brantley on the Today Show with Gaga. The song doesn't start till after the 2:00 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=muXg2qPFcKY |

Cool to see an older player getting a prime gig like that which caters to a young audience... nice to see for once versus all the LA 'pretty boy' wankers that seem to typically get these type of gigs. |

She's on of the biggest pop acts in the world right now and has a distinctive image - she could have just got some musicians that fit that image and let them fake it on top of backing tracks, but she went out there and got some real players. |

My main point was that it was cool to see musicianship/experience as the primary reason for choosing a band by a young mega star (i.e., much older players who don't necessarily have the 'look' like some of the younger guys). |
