Gov't Mule/Rising Low confusion

Sign in to disble this ad
The 1st song on the second "Deep End" set from Gov't Mule features Jason Newsted on bass.
On Mike Gordon's "Rising Low" documentary, however, there is absolutely no mention of Newsted. He's the only Deep End bass player not shown and/or interviewed, and I'm not sure, but I don't think his name even comes up in the album credits at the end. Why?
And while we're at it, who is this "Joey Arkenstadt" character in the Rising Low movie? At first I thought he was a joke-the guy just seems to be so far out there...but I seem to remember seeing his name come up in association with Joey G Music out of NYC? If this guy's for real, why is he in the film, but not on either CD?

The Joey Arkenstadt character is some kind of inside joke, a waste of valuable time that could have been spent on a real bassist......but maybe I'm just old.

I'm pretty sure the reason Jason didnt show up is because his parts were recorded after the documentary was filmed. I thought it was wierd at first but I read somewhere that they really wanted Jason and it was the earliest he could get out there. Here's my question. In the film I read there was some signing in his contract where Rocco Prestia's headstock couldnt be put on film. Anyone know why.

I believe because of his endorsement deal with Conklin. If he's appearing on film/TV not using his Conklin sig bass, he can't show it. Like we don't know he's playing a P Bass!

And I thought that scheduling might have been the reason Newsted's not in the film. That, or Lars and James were being pricks again and wouldn't let him be filmed playing with someone else; which is always a possibility. I've never seen anything official about it, so who knows?

I think he had a deal with Fernandes, early/mid 90's, I could be wrong though.

Well, I guess this settles the Arkenstat question...

Now why is Newsted on the CD, but not in the movie? Or James Hetfield-he did one with Les Claypool that was included on a bonus disk that was with the 2nd cd.
