Grand Fury demos - feedback please

Sign in to disble this ad
A collaboration between two musicians (myself, Joseph Cote, and Justin Turberville of Bearhead) from the Birmingham area has been gathering steam. We're in the middle of writing, but we've managed to get some rough demos of our first two songs recorded. I just mixed and mastered them, and uploaded them.

The band's sound has been described likened to if Motorhead and Death From Above 1979 had a sonic baby. With a description like that, you know this is a sound that will hit you like like a submachine gun: loud, fast, quick, and effective.

Please take a listen and give us some feedback!

Grand Fury

Neat; fellow Alabamians!
I'm digging the first song; any plans to add bass/vocals?

hey man. thanks! where in Alabama are you? there's plans to add vocals, but there is already bass in it...in fact, it's only bass and drums. no overdubs, either. both songs were recorded together in one take.

Oh yeah, your bass sound is unique and sounds great. Would you share the secret recipe for that effect?

yep. run one of the the bass's outputs through a tube guitar amp/guitar 4x12 cab that's EQ'd to have a lot of top end and mids with not a lot of lows, mic that up, and run the second output on the bass into an Ampeg SVT-4 in Amplitube 3 that's EQ'd to cut everything above 600hz, and mix till sounds good. also, include some chorus on the "guitar amp/cab" signal.

great to hear "unique" being an adjective for my tone.....^_^

I'm in Shelby county.
That bass sounded scarily like a guitar on my iPhone... Which is totally rad. No need for guitar I suppose!

You used to live in Ridgeland right? I liked you on FB with my account and my band's (That Scoundrel) account.

We should see about a show sometime.

sounds awesome, gotta love the bass + guitar amp combo, did that on one of my grungey recordings aswell.. London City tube amp connected to an Ampeg 4x10, plus a raunchy Squier 1x10" guitar combo.. Rawr!
Perfect for this kind of music imo.

DuraMorte: awesome! you're right around town! whenever shows start happening, we'll let you know. if you're on fb, add us, and we'll be able to keep you updated on upcoming shows.

Adam: yep. it was Madison, but same area, really. I saw you on there, and remembered you were on here. that sounds good, though. do you guys have any recordings? also, I think I played with your drummer for a little bit. I tried out for a band that he was playing drums in, and a guy named Kyle Walker was playing guitar in. nothing came together, but I believe that was him.

bassliner and agreatheight: thanks! the tone is pretty powerful in person, definitely.

Yeah, Joe is a younger cat so I don't know any of his old band guys. We have 3 live video from our first show.

vocals have been added to "You're Not That Memorable". here's a link, let me know your thoughts. lyrics may change in the second verse. I couldn't think of any at the time of recording, so I just doubled the first verse. I blew out my voice doing my best to get these right, so hopefully you like it. it's fierce.

so, I'm getting restless looking for a new drummer.....I'm thinking I'm gonna cancel my netflix account and start doing nothing but writing...I don't really watch TV, so I'll sort of be forced to play my bass more.....should be good
