Great Bass Fills

Check out this killer two bar bass fill by Anthony Jackson on Chaka Khan's studio recording "Heed The Warning".

Heed The Warning - A.Jackson by was3 on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free

The bass fill occurs at about 3m30s into the song. The first bar is a very bebop influenced line, alot of the other lines in the track are great as well.

Tasty, AJ is the man!

"From Within" is always in my 10 most listened tunes! I enjoy the live version with both Horacio El NEgro and Dave Weckl on drums.

Talking about Anthony Jackson's fills, he has some killer ones too in a tune called "P'tit Louis" on the "Playground" album.
At 3min01 and at 3min13 Michel Petrucciani Trio 1991 - YouTube

I also love to hear Richard bona diminished fills. Tons of them in "Orient Express" (Zawinul syndicate, "my people", 1992)

There are tons of bassists whose fills are great, but I'll just mention the recent ones I've like enough to learn.

Pino Palladino's R&B stuff, particularly with Erykah Badu. Fairly simple, but just perfect placement and feel.

Michael League, bassist and composer for Snarky Puppy. If you haven't heard of them, definitely check them out on YouTube. Anything from 'Tell Your Friends' is amazing, and his fills are full of funky, tasteful goodness.

Here is a live version of "Orient Express" but this time with another genius on bass; Linley Marthe!

Interesting to hear fills of different flavor applied to the same composition.

AJ also does a nice fill on Chaka's cover of "Whatcha' Gonna Do For Me"...

...and for some reason, I also thought of Louis Johnson's fills on Mike McDonald's "I Keep Forgetting".
