Great Songs recorded with flatwounds

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up a Squier maple VM P bass yesterday and I put flats on it before it even left the shop. As I was playing it I got to thinking that tons of music that I hear, even lots of the newer stuff seems like it was recorded with flatwounds, though it may be preformed live with roundwound strings.

Am I crazy, or is this a common practice? Cause I can definatly see flatwounds recording better than rounds!!

Flatwounds are "in" right now, so a lot of modern music is being recorded with them. They were much less popular in the 80s and 90s for sure.

I disagree, IMO rounds are 90% plus of the market. You may get the impression Flats are used more often because you hang around TB.

I use flats almost all the time by the way.

+1

I use T.I. Flats they cut through the mix so well. I got them cause Pino Palledino's tone on Where the light is is amazing. So yeah Pino, Steve Harris, James Jamerson, Stu Cook etc. all use flatwound strings.

That is true, I stand corrected.
