My vote would have to be an obvious one, Rush - Moving Pictures (Geddy Lee), i'd like to hear what everybody else thinks. this is for a full album.

well theres a few contenders that come to mind...
when i think of "bass albums" i think of albums that are built around the bass as the main focal instrument...

i would have to suggest anything by
OM
Joe Lally or
Jah Wobble.

I was thinking he meant albums that have great bass lines throughout.

could be the same thing, in fact if an album has the bass as the focal instrument.. it BETTER have great bass lines!

other contenders:
FUGAZI- 13 songs, and Repeater... hell.. all of em.
Lungfish- Rainbows From Atoms and Sound in Time
Unwound - Fake Train
Herbie Hancock- Head Hunters
and of course ... Morphine.

not to forget Joy Division- Substance for its unique bass atmosphere

I'd like to be cool and come up with a lost classic but I can't think of anything better than blood sugar sex magic. I'm not a huge rhcp fan but that is a sweet album and flea's finest work.

The lines are stone simple, but I've always been a big fan of The Heavy Rhyme Experience. It's more a combination of the bass tone and the lines, than just the lines themselves, but the album is a great listen if you want to hear good bass.

I've also been listening to Dr. John's Gumbo a lot lately, and the Sun the Moon and the Herbs. IMO these two albums are required listening for a blues / soul / funk bass player.

+1 When I was just getting into bass guitar, a friend of mine said "you want to play bass? You need to listen to this" and cued up YYZ.
