Wouldn't say it's the greatest cover ever, but it kicks some major butt IMO.

Thought it woud be cool to start a greatest covers ever thread. Post yer favs please.

Summer Breeze by Type O Negative. I like the original as well as the cover quite a lot. Wonderful reworking, a whole new take on the song.

One of my personal favorite covers is Yes doing the Byrd's "I See You".

BTW - my girlfriend has one of their Kula Shaker's recent albums (the band that does the "Hush" cover in the OP link). Really nice stuff. Very late-60's retro at times.

Jimi Hendrix doing Dylan's All Along the Watchtower. Of course many great covers of Dylan - Byrds (Tambourine Man), To Make You Feel My Love (Billy Joel) Clapton (Knockin On Heaven's Door) Band (I Shall Be Released)

+100 AWESOME cover.
check out summer breeze redone by Crystin. She is basically a failed pop star but did an excellent cover of the song. Its up on itunes.

Im also gonna vote for Spineshanks version of "while my guitar gently weeps"

or MachineHeads version of "message in a bottle"

There were a few people who covered it, but the Dixie Chicks version of Landslide is just fantastic, IMO.

+1. Impersonation is the sincerest form of flattery. A fitting homage to the bands of yesteryear.

I did not know that you could coax addt'l overdrive and vibrato out of a Hammond B-3 by tilting it forward 30 degrees. I've got to add this, along with my "increasing string tension" references, to my library.

Faith No More's cover of 'War Pigs' (their cover of 'Highway Star' was atrocious...)
Disturbed's cover of 'Land of Confusion'
Orgy - Blue Monday
Fear Factory - Cars
White Zombie - Children of The Grave

I could go on....

It's nice but I sorely miss the crazy hi-hat work that was a major highlight of the original. Like Police covers by metal bands? Check out Invisible Sun by Edge of Sanity. Not the best cover ever but still pretty nice.
