| | | | As bassists of any age I would hope that "Crossroads" by Cream and " Crown of Creation " by Jefferson Airplane would be #1 and #2 as to when legitimate bass playing began in rock . |

I based my list on how hard a song is to follow in a playlist. Seems to me, when one of the following songs play, the next one is bound to be a let down (at least to me). All of these are musical genius in various ways to me sometimes musically, and sometimes lyrically.
Pearl Jam - Yellow Ledbetter
Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata
Mark Knopfler - What it Is
Elbow - Grounds for Divorce
Tracy Chapman - Bang Bang Bang
+1 U2 - Where the Streets Have no Name |

| | | FYI - The Left Banke did the original "English version" of "Walk Away Renée" in 1966 (#5 Billboard Top 40). The English lyrics were composed by the group's 16-year-old keyboard player Michael Brown (real name Michael Lookofsky) and Tony Sansone.
Bob Calilli is also credited as a writer, as he originally wrote the French song "Quand un Amour Renaît" for Sylvie Vartan, and his melody is the same on both records.
The song was also a hit for the Four Tops in 1968 (#14 Billboard Top 40).
